Funeral homes can be depressing spaces–and not just because of their function. Many of these buildings are grey, windowless spaces that look and feel uninviting, Doyle + Partners on the other hand, thinks funeral homes and there spaces can be uplifting spaces, which is why it recently designed a building that better reflects the way we say goodbye.

Together with our clients we imagined an alternative to the current state of funeral home design, creating a contemporary conceptual building organised around one main landscape tranquillity garden space. This courtyard space bring natural light deep into the heart of the building, which also features a floor to ceiling frame less glazing.

We have used beautiful natural materials like oak, stone and zinc inside and out to give a warm feel inside and contemporary feel outside. The funeral home has a spacious design, high floor to ceiling heights and construction detailing is to the highest standard.

We hope that this design could change the way Funeral home design approaches spaces of mourning. “Hopefully the funeral industry will see this and will reflect upon what their facilities could be like.
